The 113th. meeting of the American Academy of Insurance Medicine was
held from the 2nd.to the 6th.October in Denver Colorado. It is the best
CME one can find as it covers such a wide ranging scientific field. It
is also a great way to see America and do some networking with friends
and colleagues from all over the world.
Denver itself, the mile high city, was very pleasant, friendly and easy
to navigate. Hiring a car made tours of the surrounding area of the
Rockies National Park a `must`.
The Scientific Committee did an excellent job putting platform
presentations and coordinating the workshops to the presentations so
that subjects could be explored in depth. The whole event was held
together by Ellyn Holzman and her team.
On the 20th.October we had the combined AMS and AMU meeting at the RAF
Club in London. Speakers included Dr. Duncan Dymond on Keyhole Cardiac
Surgery, Professor Richard Underwood on Myocardial Perfusion
Scintigraphy, Update on Melanoma with Dr. Louise Fearfield, Implications
of Underwriting on C.I. Claims presented by Bob Ratcliff and Risk
Assessment and Laboratory Testing from Betty Sears of Lab. One.
On the 3rd November we had our usual Wednesday meeting, two speakers on
the Epidemiology of Stroke for C.I.,Life and Disability Insurance-Dr.
Anthony Rudd and Professor Charles Wolfe.
Next year we start with the AGM and Dr. Frank Vince's Presidential
Address entitled` Who Teaches, Who Learns` on the 2nd. of February at
Lettsom House. Then the combined AMS-Royal College of Physicians meeting
on the 9th.May at the College itself, full details on this website. This
will be a highlight event and there is a programme to match! .
